DSG,A/T - Rough Gear Changes When Accelerating and Decelerating
37 Rough gear changes both when accelerating and slowing down
37 12 40
2028715/1
February 28, 2012.
Affected Vehicles
Condition
2010 Audi A3 (8PA) L4-2.0L Turbo (CBFA) Page 70
Rough gear changes both when accelerating and slowing down.
At constant speed without gear change there is a sporadic rough/driving power disruption.
Technical Background
After a Mechatronics, torque converter, or complete gearbox change the clutches must be adapted to the new component; this requires a gradual
move of the clutch linings towards the optimal operating points in the most diverse load conditions. Therefore, sporadic driving power disruptions or
reduced shift comfort are possible over the first 500 miles despite adaptation. With time these issues decrease depending on the driving profile.
This happens also if the adaptation values of the gearbox were deleted.
Production Solution
Not applicable.
Service
The first step in any shift concern should be to check the fluid level and condition. Correct level if low and test drive to recheck for the concern. If
burnt or contaminated fluid is found call TAC with fluid sample showing condition before any repairs. If level and condition is okay proceed as
follows.
Sporadic driving power disruptions (jerks) or reduced shift comfort are possible over the first 500 miles as the clutch linings gradually move towards
the optimal operating points in the most diverse load conditions. This is normal operation of the transmission.
After replacing a Mechatronics unit, torque convertor, or a complete gearbox the clutches must be adapted per the procedure from ELSA or GFF.
This may also be required after certain software updates, or if the adaptations were cleared. This GFF or ELSA procedure is required to start the
clutch adaptations properly toward full adaptation. Sporadic driving power disruptions (jerks) or reduced shift comfort are still possible over the first
500 miles despite adaptation as the clutch linings gradually move towards the optimal operating points in the most diverse load conditions.

Instruments/Fuel System - Distance To Empty Display Info
17 Distance to empty display in on-board computer: General Information
17 12 26
2028440/1
January 20, 2012.
2010 Audi A3 (8PA) L4-2.0L Turbo (CBFA) Page 81
Affected Vehicles
Condition
Customer statement:
^ After refueling, a different "distance to empty" (vehicle range) is shown than last time the fuel tank was filled.
^ The vehicle range display drops inconsistently.
^ After refueling, the vehicle range display does not change for a long period of time.
^ When driving on hilly roads for a long time the vehicle range display suddenly changes significantly.
There are no DTCs in J285 (address word 17) related to fuel senders.
This condition does not involve or affect the accuracy of the fuel level indicator, but only the estimated distance to empty display on the on-board
computer.
Technical Background
The primary purpose for the range display is to prevent the vehicle from running out of fuel, meaning well before the tank is totally empty a warning
will be given and the range may show 0 miles. The warning (acoustic warning and fuel low indicator) is provided as soon as the fuel gauge needle
enters the red zone.
The average and instant consumption figures shown in the on-board computer are not used for calculating the range. The range is calculated using an
internal, weighted value instead. Two different calculation methods (filter algorithms) are used for determining the range display:
1) Vehicles before model year 2009:
Audi A3 (8P), A4 (8E), A6 (4F) up to model year 2008, A8 (4E), Audi Q7 (4L) up to model year 2008, TT (8J) and all predecessors:
Only consumption figures of the last 50 kilometers (31 miles) are included, whereby the last kilometer has the highest weighting and the first the
lowest.
If the driver drives efficiently right before he refuels the vehicle, this can cause the vehicle range display to be noticeably higher than the previous
fill-up. Conversely, an aggressive driving style can cause the fuel range display to be lower than previous.
2) Vehicles from model year 2009:
Audi A4 (8K), A5 (8T), A6 (4F) from model year 2009, A6 (4G), A7 (4G), A8 (4H), Audi Q5 (8R), Audi Q7 (4L) from model year 2009 and all
successors.
A gradual driving profile is built from the last 50 kilometers (31 miles) and 500 kilometers (310 miles): The short-term consumption figures over the
last 50 kilometers (31 miles) and the long-term figures over 500 kilometers (310 miles) are included in the calculation, which is also based on the
tank volume.
With this method the range display can only rise when driving efficiently for extended periods, resulting in a more realistic "expected" fuel range.
Tip: With both methods the range display after filling up depends on the driving style before filling up. This means the range displayed after fill-up
will not be the same in all cases. In addition, the remaining range display does not refer to the whole tank volume. It only indicates a trend based on
the short to medium-term fuel consumption.

2027773/3
November 1, 2012.
Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 94 number 12-69 dated March 15, 2012 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
Condition
Part or all of the daytime running lights do not work on vehicles with LED DRLs.
For vehicles with halogen DRLs, please reference TSB 2017488, 94 Halogen Daytime running lights do not work.
Technical Background
In the past, the daytime running light bulbs were a serviceable part. In this application, the LED strip cannot be replaced, and may have an associated
control module. This TSB is for servicing information only.
Production Solution
Not Applicable.
Service

  1. If a DTC is listed in J519 related to daytime running lights, follow the respective test plan before proceeding with this bulletin.

  2. If both front DRLs are inoperative, verify the DRLs are turned on via the vehicle system option:

^ A3, TT, R8:
The daytime running lights are automatically switched on when the headlight switch is set to AUTO. If the headlight switch is set to OFF,
2010 Audi A3 (8PA) L4-2.0L Turbo (CBFA) Page 2
the DRLs will be off. This functionality cannot be changed.
^ A4 (8K), A5, A6, A7, A8, Audi Q7:
In vehicles with MMI, the daytime running lights are switched on via the menu option Exterior light control or Exterior Lighting.
See also the owner's manual of the respective vehicle types.
3. If one or several LEDs are not illuminated (Figure 1), the affected headlight assembly must be replaced. The LED light strip is not a
serviceable item.
Tip: Only the headlight assembly needs to be replaced. Any headlight control modules can be reused.
4. If all DRL LEDs in one headlight assembly are inoperative, there are typically two possible causes:
^ LED circuit board.
^ DRL control unit, located inside the headlight assembly.
Tip: For 2009 - 2010 Audi Q5 vehicles, please follow TSB 2020780, 94 One or more Daytime Running Light LEDs in one headlight
assembly are inoperative.
A3, A5 (2008-2012), and TT vehicles do not have serviceable DRL control units, as these modules are integrated into the headlight. On these
vehicles, the entire headlight assembly must be replaced.
For other vehicles, in order to verify the root cause, swap the DRL control units between the two headlights.
^ If the problem is no longer present, leave the control units on the currently installed side, and release the vehicle. Manufacturing
differences between components can sometimes lead to concerns that can be remedied simply by exchanging right and left control
modules.
^ If the problem follows the suspect DRL control unit, replace the DRL control unit.
^ If the problem does not follow and remains on the original side, verify all headlight connections, and replace the headlight with the
inoperative LED.

Lighting - Moisture Accumulation In Exterior Lamps
94 Exterior lights, moisture accumulation
94 12 92
2012749/11
October 24, 2012.
Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 94 number 11-52 dated October 11, 2011 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
Condition
Condensation is visible on the inside of the headlight, taillight, fog light, side marker light, front turn signal, daytime running lights, or third brake
light lens.
Technical Background
Damp air settles on the inside of a cold lens, which creates condensation.
The headlight circulation system allows air from the outside to flow through the headlights. This open water-protected ventilation system (needed for
pressure compensation) creates different climate zones in the headlight: very warm areas, where the lens is warmed up by the light, and relatively
cool areas, where the lens is cooled down by the air flow.
Considerable differences in humidity and temperature between the inside and the outside of the headlights, even while driving, can lead to
condensation. This is especially true in cold and wet weather, but it can also happen after a car wash, after steam cleaning the engine or the front end,
with overnight temperature changes, etc. This phenomenon is more visible on lenses made of clear glass than on lenses with patterns. The moisture
does not affect the headlight function (light performance) and does not lead to corrosion or other damage to headlight parts.
Production Solution
Not applicable.
Service
For headlights, the affected lens surface should be clear after approximately 10 minutes of light operation, although the entire lens surface may not
clear. The clearing process depends on the outside temperature and the humidity.
In cases where water droplets have formed on the inside of the lens or water has collected at the bottom of the light assembly, check for leaking seals
and/or cracks in the lens or light assembly. If no damage is found, use compressed air (less than 30 PSI) to clear the lens.
On light assemblies with LED lights, e.g. S6 daytime running lights, the LED lights do not emit enough heat to clear the moisture from the lens. Only
the pressure difference of the ventilation system provides the air flow to clear the moisture on the inside of the lens. The design of the ventilation
system on these types of lights will ensure the lens is clear after a few miles have been driven.
For Audi Q7, please see TSB 2028277 94 Moisture accumulation in headlamps for the installation of headlight ventilation valves. Do not replace
light or lens assemblies for these conditions.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
CONDITION
The tire pressure sensor is damaged, contaminated or is not an original Audi sensor.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
Tire pressure sensors have been submitted to warranty in non-warrantable circumstances.Claims for replacing tire pressure sensors damaged by
outside influences are not reimbursable under warranty. Aftermarket sensors are not reimbursable under warranty.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
SERVICE
When replacing a tire pressure sensor, prior to submitting a warranty claim ensure there is no damage due to outside influence and that the sensor is
an original Audi part. Claims submitted for aftermarket sensors or for sensors damaged by outside influence will not be reimbursed.
The list below provides some examples of concerns not covered by warranty.
^ Broken valve stems due to seized aftermarket valve stem caps, and valve stems broken due to workshop error by applying lateral force when using
tire inflators and pressure gauges.

^ TPMS sensors broken on the tire machine due to incorrect placement of the wheel on the machine. Refer to the illustrative sticker on the tire
machine for proper placement. Or, refer to the instructional manual for your dealer's tire machine.
^ Contaminated sensors.
^ Sensors broken due to over-tightening of the valve stem collar.

BMW And Audi Are Laughing At The Slow-Selling Cadillac ATS

Great car, but the Germans still dominate the segment.

You may recall back in early 2012 when Cadillac unveiled the ATS sport sedan and coupe. This, according to GM officials, was finally the car that was going to beat out the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. Yes, the ATS is an excellent car. And yes, it can totally compete with the Germans. However, not enough people are buying them and Cadillac is now in a bind. According to Automotive News, the ATS has lagged behind its rivals in that "its market share has declined every year since 2013."

Not good. Part of the reason why is that sedans, in general, are losing popularity. Crossovers are what’s hot. Another problem Cadillac is experiencing with the ATS is that its resale values are also falling, thus "making it harder and more expensive to offer a competitive lease." So what can be done to fix this? Price slashing. For the 2017 ATS, expect to find prices reduced between $650 and $1,100, depending on trim. In short, each trim level will get more features for less. The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, for example, has been axed completely. The formerly optional 2.0-liter turbo four banger is now the base engine. The 3.6-liter V6 will remain the premium engine.

“We want to emphasize the 2.0-liter turbo and the car’s features while attacking the market on the product side, rather than using increased incentives,” a Cadillac official told Automotive News. However, the ATS’s base price has now increased by around $1,500, to $35,000. Will this be enough to boost ATS sales? Obviously too early to tell but if this doesn’t work then the ATS’s future might be in question.
