Oil Quality



All Audi engines must always use engine oils that conform to the applicable Audi Oil Quality Standard. No other engine oils may be used. This also



applies when topping off engine oil between services.



Recommendation for Customers



It is recommended that the customer always carry a spare quart/liter of engine oil that conforms to the applicable Audi Oil Quality Standard in case



the engine oil needs topping off while on the road. The spare quart/liter of oil should be stored in its original container, securely closed in the



luggage compartment. Ensure the container is securely stowed.

Use of the wrong oil may damage the engine. Damage caused by using the wrong oil will not be covered by the applicable vehicle warranties.

Service



1. Determine whether the customer's phone is on the approved mobile phone list. (Review list at www.audiusa.com/bluetooth.)



2. Ask the customer whether the mobile phone has been successfully connected to this vehicle via Bluetooth.



3. Determine whether another approved phone can be connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth.



4. Determine whether the customer's phone can be connected to another vehicle equipped with 3G MMI via Bluetooth.



5. Determine whether adaptation channel 17 (Bluetooth on/off) is set to 1 in the 3G MMI main unit, address 5F.



If points 1, 2, 4 and 5 apply but not point 3 perform the following:



Read measuring value block 144 in the main unit, address 5F.

^ If value 2 is "1" (Bluetooth switched off), then reset the value to 0 and then back to 1 in adaptation channel 17.



^ If value 2 is "0" (Bluetooth switched on), then continue with analysis. The main unit, 5F, does not need to be replaced.



^ If value 2 is "2" (Bluetooth doesn't work), then read measure value block 151 in the main unit, 5F. If the value reads "Not Possible", then proceed



as follows:



^ Replace the main unit for 3G MMI systems with navigation. Check the 3G MMI software level and if necessary update the software by following



the instructions below.



Tip: Refer to your parts department for the correct main unit part number.



Update software of the 3G MMI system - A6 and Audi Q7 models equipped with radio plus and not equipped with navigation by following the



instructions below.



Tip: For successful results, the steps must be performed in this sequence.



1. Check 3G MMI system software version

3. Perform feedback documentation to the SVM

1. Switch on ignition and wait approximately 1 minute.



2. Press the SETUP and RETURN buttons simultaneously and hold both buttons down for about 5 seconds.



If this message is displayed, the system is not yet completely initialized. Wait a few seconds, then press the RETURN button.

3. Read current MMI train (Zug) version.



4. The train (Zug) versions listed in the table above must be updated.



P versions are production build.



K versions are service updates.



2. Update software of the 3G MMI system



1. Connect an approved Audi battery maintainer/charger to vehicle.



2. Switch off all unnecessary electrical equipment (blower, seat heater, interior light, etc.).



Tip: Also make sure that no electromagnetic interference sources (mobile phone) are operated in or near the vehicle while individual control units



are being updated.



Tip: For complete and detailed instructions for the 3G MMI system update, refer to the attached instructions. (Note: The attached instructions are



generic. Some portions may not apply to this specific TSB. Importing and exporting customer code data is not necessary for this 3G MMI update



system.)



3. Insert update CD into the 3G MMI main (head) drive unit located in the center of the instrument panel.



4. Start the software update.



5. After the software update has been performed, confirm the Abort (cancel) documentation" selection. The 3G MMI system will restart. Then



perform the feedback documentation.



3. Perform feedback documentation to the SVM



1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.



2. Confirm any proposed parameter settings and coding.



3. Then perform test program "5F - Information electronics, resetting fault memory" to clear any faults in the system.



Tip: No control unit is flashed as part of the feedback documentation to the SVM. Do not perform any updates of control units. Do not replace any



control units.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND



Contacts may be widened (over 0.63 mm) by using incorrect pins or incorrect methods for current flow tests. Either action may cause intermittent



electrical connections. This may cause sporadic DTCs to be stored in various control modules.

SERVICE



1. Check the contacts on the control module and connector.

a. Verify that all pins and terminals are securely clipped into the connectors.



b. Verify that no pins are bent or deformed.



c. Verify proper crimping as described and illustrated in Figure 1.



^ Pin/terminal must be crimped onto the wire (Figure 1, A).



^ Pin/terminal must be crimped onto the wire sheathing (Figure 1, B).



2. Mechanically check the contacts on the control module and connector.



Test the individual terminals by using the standard 0.63 mm male pin (see Figure 1 and Parts Table) to verify proper contact. Make sure that the



test pin is not twisted and is inserted correctly into the female terminal. The contact must be tight, but it must still allow the pin to slide into the



terminal of the control module connector.



Only use the 0.63 mm male pins because the female terminals are designed for these pins, which are the only terminals found in the connectors for



the above-mentioned control modules.



3. If the pin/terminal is deformed, improperly crimped or does not contact correctly, the contact must be replaced with the VAS 1978A repair kit or



ordered in sets.

apply:



1. Brake discs or brake pads are close to or below their wear limit.



2. Rotors are covered with excessive rust due to long periods of the vehicle not being driven.



3. Foreign bodies between brake disc and brake pad, such as small stones, grit, or sand.



4. Rotors are severely grooved.



5. Aftermarket pads or rotors.



For vehicles within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, Audi of America is requesting your cooperation in supplying us with technical information



regarding this condition.



1. Verify the brake noise with a test drive.

2. Complete the Brake Noise Questionnaire.



3. Obtain a sound recording of the brake noise (a cell phone recording is OK as long as the noise can be clearly identified).



4. Email the questionnaire and sound recording to: alignment@audi.com.



Warning:



Never use compressed air to clean brake dust from a brake system.



Perform the braking sequence as follows:



Brake disc, cleaning

1. With careful consideration of the traffic situation, perform 2-3 ABS stops (e.g. from speeds above 50 MPH). Between each stop, please allow the



brake components to cool. (Drive vehicle for more than 1 minute at speeds greater than 50MPH.)



2. If necessary, perform additional ABS stops allowing the brakes to cool between each stop (max. 5). Only proceed to the next step (Brake pad,



cleaning) if the brake noise was not eliminated.



Brake pad, cleaning



1. With the wheels removed, mark the position of each brake pad to ensure reinstallation in the same position. Work on one brake at a time to avoid



mixing up parts.



2. On some models, the front brake pads are glued to the brake caliper. Do not remove the pads for this procedure. Treat the pad as described in



this TSB with it attached to the brake caliper. If these pads are unglued they must be replaced.



3. Some front/rear brake pads have an anti-vibration backing plate (non-sticky). Do not remove this type of backing plate.



4. Use Guided Functions to release the rear brake calipers for vehicles with Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). It is not necessary to re-adapt the



parking brake for this procedure.



5. Clean face of the brake pad with sandpaper (Figure 2).



5. Clean all grooves with a suitable workshop hand tool (Figure 3).

6. Slightly chamfer edges of brake pads with a file (Figure 4).



Brake caliper, cleaning



Note:



The following steps require a thin coat of Plastilube Moly3(R) high temperature grease to be applied to various parts of the brakes. This grease



must never come in contact with:



^ The braking surface of the brake pads or brake discs.



^ The caliper piston.



These areas must always be free of grease.



1. Thoroughly clean all contact points (Figure 5) where the brake pad backing plate makes contact with the brake caliper and/or the brake carrier.



Reassembly



1. Prior to reinstalling the brake pads, apply a thin coat of Plastilube Moly3(R) high temperature grease to contact points (Figure 5) where the brake



pad backing plate makes contact with the brake caliper and/or the brake carrier.



2. For brake pads that have springs (common on rear brake pads), apply a thin coat of Plastilube Moly3(R) high temperature grease to the springs



where they make contact with the brake caliper.

This Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) details the general process for carrying out a Software Version Management (SVM) software update for any



TSB or Update.



Troubleshooting information is included in the Additional Information section.



Please refer to the upcoming TSBs covering detailed aspects of SVM. They will be listed under group "99".



Technical Background



SVM was developed with the main goal of ensuring each Audi vehicle has the correct electronic control units with the correct software versions



installed when it leaves the dealership repair facility.



SVM is a feature of GFF that has a subset of functions or components as seen in Figure 1. These functions are explained below. A VAS 5051B, VAS



5052A, or VAS 6150 (A/B/C) diagnostic tool is required to read out the vehicle control unit data and send it to the SVM server (also called an



"SVM communication").



1. SVM - Specified/actual comparison



Goal: This function is designed to ensure all electronic control units installed in the vehicle have the correct part numbers, software versions,



coding and parametrization. It will not suggest a control unit software update. During this SVM communication, the part numbers and software



versions of the actual control units installed in the vehicle will be sent to the SVM servers. This "actual" data is then compared to the "specified"



data in the SVM database for a particular vehicle. The specified data stored on the SVM servers is also referred to as the vehicle reference".

What an SVM Spec/Actual can do:



^ Document any changes to an electronic control unit's hardware/software part numbers, hardware/software versions, and provide feedback to



the user if these changes are accepted or rejected.



^ When new parts are installed, it will also calculate coding changes or parameterization(1) changes. If a "hardware replacement suggestion" is



given, then a conflict exists with the vehicle reference for that control unit (i.e. SVM expects a different part number or software version for



the control unit in question).



^ As a rule, SVM will not allow a control unit with the same part number as the original part to be installed if the new part contains an older



software revision. In this situation, SVM will return a hardware change(2) suggestion . In these special cases a new vehicle reference must be



manually set by an Audi Product Support Engineer. Please contact the Technical Assistance Center Helpline if you suspect this is the case.



2. SVM - Direct Input: SVM code for problem related update



Goal: This function performs any additional functions which cannot be performed with an SVM Spec/Actual.



Those functions include the following.



What an SVM code can do:



^ Update the software in a flash-capable control unit if the SVM code(3) is valid for the vehicle.



^ After the software update is completed, an additional SVM Specified/Actual comparison will be performed to calculate a new coding and/or



parameterization and to document all control unit changes as a new reference in the SVM database.



^ SVM Codes should not be used to update a control unit without knowing the solution(s) the software update provides. To update control unit



software, the technician must first diagnose the condition in the vehicle and find an applicable TSB that provides a valid SVM Code.



Randomly trying out multiple SVM Codes wastes time and can sometimes cause conflicts in the SVM database.



^ SVM codes can also be used to document manual software updates to the vehicle's systems, as in the case with MMI Software Package (ZUG)



updates. These types of updates are performed manually with a CD/DVD/SD card. An SVM code for an MMI update documents the changes



in the SVM database and provides coding and/or parameterization suggestions. It does not perform any software updates.



SVM codes for MMI Software Package (ZUG) updates will only complete successfully if every control unit is updated to the correct software



level. This is especially important when a control unit fails/dies during the manual software update process and is then later replaced, but not



updated after it is installed. Since the new replacement control unit was not updated the SVM code will fail. The replaced control unit must be



updated prior to running the SVM code.



^ SVM Exchange (XCHG) Codes can also be used to aid in the installation of new service parts when an SVM spec/actual cannot code or



parameterize the replacement control unit, as with all Audi airbag control units.



It is critical to note SVM XCHG codes must be run immediately after a new control unit is installed in the vehicle. If an SVM Spec/Actual is



performed instead, it will create an invalid vehicle reference in the SVM database. Once this occurs the SVM XCHG code will not function



properly. The only way to resolve this issue is to contact the Technical Assistance Center Helpline to have the vehicle reference manually set.



To find the SVM XCHG code, follow the parts bulletin listed in ETKA or search for an applicable Technical Service Bulletin.



3. SVM - Direct Input: SVM code for vehicle conversion



Goal: This function allows for a factory approved retrofit of additional control unit(s) using a valid SVM Code for Vehicle Conversion.



^ This type of SVM code is documented inside the installation instructions for the control unit and is typically performed as the last installation



step. You can identify an SVM code for conversion by the way it is named. They are typically named "050XXX".



4. SVM - Activations



Goal: This function is designed to activate additional features or functions within an already installed control unit using an Activation Code



and possibly additional PIN codes or Customer codes.



^ This function is designed with a security system similar to installing a new operating system on a personal computer. Currently, SVM



Activation codes are only being used with navigation map data updates for vehicles with MMI3G/3G+. The customer no longer needs to



purchase the Navigation map data. Instead the customer must purchase an "Activation Packet" to unlock the map update in the MMI system.



The Activation Packet consists of an Activation Code, Activate Number, and Pin Code. Once the Activation information is used, it becomes



permanently tied to the customer's vehicle in the SVM database and cannot be reused with another vehicle.



5. SVM - communication, checking



Goal: This function allows the user to check the VAS Tester's SVM online connection status to ensure the tester is communicating with the



SVM server.

Tips:



^ (1)Parameterization refers to data written into the control unit by SVM to customize the software functionality for the specific vehicle or



country of operation. It is often referred to as the "calibration data." It is critical the parameterization is executed anytime it is suggested by



SVM to ensure the proper functionality of the control unit. Not all control units are parameterized by SVM.



^ (2)It is also important to note that if there are any "Hardware Change Suggestions" any time when an SVM code is run, a new vehicle



Reference" will NOT be set in the SVM database. This is to prevent any bad data from being documented in the reference. This can create an



issue where repeat coding and/or parameterization suggestions are given with all subsequent SVM communications (Spec/Actual or SVM



code). All "Hardware Change Suggestions" should be resolved prior to an SVM code being executed! Once the hardware issue is resolved, the



SVM code must be run again to set the new reference.



^ (3)It is important to note that almost all SVM codes will automatically perform a "Quick Test" to verify if the SVM code is valid for the



vehicle prior to performing the software update. This is done to speed up the process and provide immediate feedback to the tech of whether



or not SVM will be able to code/parameterize the control unit after the software update is completed. If SVM finds an issue it will indicate the



SVM code is valid for the vehicle, but cannot be completed.

Service



1. Address or record any DTCs related to any additional customer concerns before continuing. The reason for this is that any sporadic DTCs could



be automatically erased at the end of the SVM communication.



Tip: Sporadic communication DTCs will be created during the flash procedure and will be automatically erased along with all other pre-existing



sporadic DTCs at the end of the SVM test plan.



Tuning is the addition or modification of any component that causes an Audi vehicle to perform outside the normal parameters and specifications



approved by Audi of America, Inc. If you encounter a vehicle with a tuned engine control module (ECM) or transmission control module (TCM),



your dealership must do the following before performing any procedure that updates ECM or TCM programming:



^ Notify the owner that their ECM or TCM was found to have been tuned.



^ Notify the owner that any damage caused by the tuning of the ECM or TCM (including any adverse emissions consequences) will not be



covered by Audi of America, Inc. warranties.



^ Obtain the owners written consent (refer to a Control Module Tuning form) for any requested repair - under warranty or outside warranty - that



requires flashing that will automatically overwrite the tuned program.



Tip: Any programming update (flash) may overwrite any tuned ECM or TCM programming.



2. Ensure the TSB stating the condition in the vehicle applies to the customer complaint. Ensure the VAS Tester operator has a valid GeKo user ID



and password. Perform only operations explicitly stated in the TSB or Update.



3. Verify that the following tester requirements are met



^ VAS 5051B, VAS 5052A, or VAS 6150(A/B/C) with minimum Base CD Version 19.01 with Brand CD 19.36 installed.



^ Tester is plugged into an 110V AC power supply at all times.



^ Connect VAS 5051B and VAS 5052A to the local network via LAN/Ethernet cable.



^ Connect VAS 6150(A/B/C) to the local network via LAN/Ethernet cable. A WiFi connection is not recommended due to the possibility of



signal dropouts during the online communication.



^ For B7 A4s after VIN 8E_5A400000, always use the 6017B K Line Adapter to ensure communication to all modules.



^ If the Bluetooth wireless VAS 5054A transmitter head is used in conjunction with a VAS 5052A or VAS 6150(A/B/C) tester, the transmitter



head MUST BE connected with a USB cable to the tester.



^ Ensure the Windows power savings are set correctly (disabled) for VAS testers operating with an open Windows interface in which users have



access to all regular PC operating system functions (implemented by running the Base V14.00.00 Recovery DVD).



^ VAS 5051B, VAS 5052A, or VAS 6150(A/B/C) with minimum Base CD Version 19.01 with Brand CD 19.36 installed.



^ Tester is plugged into an 110V AC power supply at all times.

Note:



If the Windows screensaver activates during a control module software update and the hard drive shuts down as a result of the power settings, a



control module failure may result. Refer to Service Circular ATE-08-23 for more information.



Note:



Do not use a 6017 or 6017A while flashing. Doing so may result in complete control module failure.



4. Verify that the following vehicle requirements are met:



^ Battery must have a minimum no-load charge of 12.5V.



^ Connect vehicle to a powered Audi-approved battery charger. Do not use a trickle charger or battery maintainer.



^ Turn off the radio and all other accessories, and when necessary, switch off running lights by applying the emergency brake or through the



MMI option menu.



^ Turn off any appliances with high electromagnetic radiation (such as mobile phones).



^ If communication with a module cannot be properly established, appropriate repairs must be made before attempting SVM. If the tester cannot



communicate with a module, the tester cannot flash software onto the module.



5. Enter the SVM code into the User Test Plan by selecting the Audi Flashing option at the main tester screen, unless otherwise directed by the TSB



or TAC Helpline.



Tip: If you do not have the latest Base/Brand CD installed on the tester, then the SVM code may fail and return an "ASM-MCD" base system error"



because the tester is not capable of reading the software flash file. Starting with the model year 2010, some software files have changed and cannot



be read with base tester software level 15 or lower. Level 16 or higher must be installed on the tester along with all released patches found on



ServiceNet. VAS Tester Patches can be found using >> Special Tools and Equipment >> VAS Tester Information >> Software.



6. Follow the SVM update procedure and enter the SVM Code found in the appropriate TSB when prompted.

^ Enter your GeKo ID when requested. Data will be transmitted to the SVM server, and the server will respond with instructions to continue.



(See detailed descriptions in the Response Codes table above.) The procedure may include one, or any combination of the following, for one



or multiple control modules as specified in the TSB or Update:



Update a control module (flash).



Code a control module.



Parameterize a control module.



Check hardware of a control module.



A hardware change suggestion will occur when SVM does not recognize the control module as valid for the vehicle. As stated before, there is a

Service



Important information to observe prior to performing the software update:



^ Follow all steps for the update otherwise possible hardware failure may occur.



^ A second software update CD is required for vehicles with rear seat entertainment.



^ Remove the update CD when the update is complete.



^ Ensure battery voltage is at a minimum of 12.5 volts.



^ Ensure a battery charger/maintainer is connected during the entire software update.



^ The ignition may remain switched off.



^ Switch off all unnecessary consumers i.e., auto/daytime running light, air conditioning, etc. during the entire software update.



^ Switch off all cell phones and other electronic devices in and around the vehicle.



^ Do not connect the VAS diagnostic tester during the software update.



^ The software update takes place via the internal CD/DVD drive of the MMI main unit.



^ The navigation database update takes place via the internal SD card slot of the MMI main unit.



^ The illustrations displayed for the software update are generic and the text within the illustrations may not exactly correspond with the



vehicle that is being updated.



^ The illustrations are a mix of MMI3G and MMI3G+. The content between both are the same.



Performing the software update:



1. Switch MMI on.



2. Export customer data (vehicles with MMI3G and MMI3G+). Follow procedure in attachment 2, Exporting and importing customer data.



3. Insert the MMI Update CD or the navigation database update SD card in the internal drive of the MMI main unit (address 5F)



4. For A8 (D4) vehicles with rear seat entertainment, insert the second MMI update CD in the internal drive of the rear main unit (address 7F).



Use the SD card slot for navigation database updates.



5. Wait at least 2 minutes for the system to analyze the data.



6. Start the update menu via the MMI main unit (address 5F) with the shortcut keys as outlined in attachment 1, Shortcut key(s) description. Hold



the buttons at the same time for about 5 seconds until the display changes.



Tip: The software update can be abandoned at this point by holding the shortcut keys for more than 5 seconds.

7. Activate the software update by pressing the lower right soft key.



8. After all the devices have registered, the update application automatically changes to "Download server". Press the rotary (control) knob to



activate the update from CD/DVD or SD card for navigation update. The download server can include various entries depending on the



vehicle configuration.



9. Wait at least 20 seconds while the version description is read. If the reading takes too long, it can be terminated by pressing Back or Return. If



the version cannot be read, check the software update CD/DVD or SD card for damage (scratches or dirt) and replace it if necessary.



10. The release number of the available update is displayed following the read-out process. Pressing the rotary (control) knob will continue the



update process.

11. Activate Standard using the rotary (control) knob.



12. All modules in the MMI are shown in the list that now appears. The entries displayed in the list may vary depending on the vehicle



configuration.

N/A = Update information not available on the inserted CD/DVD or SD card.



N = Update not required.



S = Single update (partial software update) will be performed.



Y = Software update will be performed.



13. Scroll down, select and activate Start download with the rotary (control) knob.



Tip: If an update is not required, Start download will not be available.

14. Read the note that appears. Then select and activate Start using the rotary (control) knob.



15. After confirming, the update starts automatically once the system has been rebooted.



Note:



Please do not touch any of the buttons during the update.



16. Once the system has rebooted, the download application may show a screen that displays the update progress of various modules. As soon as



all modules have registered with the download application, the update process is activated and the progress is shown on screen.



Note:



It may be necessary to reboot the system during the update programming session. This is carried out automatically and does not require the



user to take action. Once the system has rebooted, updating is continued and the "Download progress" screen is displayed. The MMI



screen retracts on vehicles equipped with folding display units.

17. For A8 (D4) vehicles with rear seat entertainment; the rear screens will display the update progress.



18. After the updating process for the rear main unit (7F) is completed, the following message is displayed on the rear screens. All remaining steps



are viewed from the front display unit.



19. Once all modules have been updated, the system automatically reboots.



20. After successful rebooting, the modules are automatically reinitialized.

21. The success of the update is now shown in a list.



22. Scroll through the list using the rotary (control) knob. If module has not correctly updated (NOK), select Retry and restart the update. Retry



can only be selected if at least one module could not be programmed. If no modules display (NOK), select and activate Continue using the



rotary (control) knob.



23. After a successful update and before Software Version Management (SVM) requires feedback documentation, the MMI must be restarted.



Select Abort documentation and the system will reboot automatically.

24. After the restart, perform the feedback documentation. To do this, connect a VAS tester with an online connection and enter the corresponding



SVM code. See attachment 3, SVM feedback. Also, refer to TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.



Note:



If the feedback documentation is not carried out, the procedure must be repeated at a later date as DTC 03276 (Check Software Versions



Management) will be set. This DTC is automatically cleared when feedback documentation has been successfully completed.



25. Additional conditions that may become evident after the update:



^ language change does not work



^ a language is not available



^ car menu incomplete



^ air conditioning does not work fully



^ air suspension is not adjustable



These issues may be caused by an incomplete parameterization. Re-check the SVM code and repeat the SVM spec/actual.



26. A reset via GFF may be performed if after the feedback or after a parts replacement the message "check software version management" is



logged.



It is necessary that the data in the vehicle database matches the version in the vehicle. This resetting possibility does not replace the feedback



after the update! Start GFF. All entries in the vehicle are shown. By selecting the entry "check software version management" the test program



starts. Follow the test program instructions.



27. If during the update the following display appears, it could mean a critical complaint (e.g. failure of the power supply) occurs. At that point an



emergency download is automatically carried out. See attachment 5, Emergency download.

During normal operation, the voice recognition commands can take up to 2 minutes to successfully load during system startup. If the complaint only



occurs during this time, this is normal and no repairs should be performed.



1. Perform a language change to reload the voice recognition commands:



^ In the MMI, navigate to Setup >> Settings >> Menu Language.

^ Switch to a different language by selecting a non-highlighted language (Figure 1). The system will load the new spoken cues.



^ Re-select the original language. Again, the system will load the spoken cues.



^ Once original language cues are loaded, retest the system.



2. If voice recognition functionality has not been restored, disconnect power from the 5F module (J794) for 30 seconds to reset the unit. Once



system has started up and loaded the information, retest the system.



3. If the above steps do not resolve the concern, contact the Audi Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for additional guidance.

The sunroof frame does not need to be replaced for this condition. The guide springs are available separately. Follow the directions below to replace



the left and right guide springs (Figure 1, 1). Also replace the rear slide (Figure 1, 2) of the sunroof headliner.



1. Remove the glass sunroof panel according to the repair instructions in Elsa Web >> Body >> Body Exterior >> 60 Sunroof >> Sunroof, removing



and installing >> Sunroof Panel, Removing and Installing.



2. Remove sunroof sliding headliner.



3. Remove cross channel.

4. Reach with a finger behind a guide spring and completely unclip it toward the center of the vehicle. Repeat to unclip the other guide spring.



5. Remove the locating spring attachments.

6. Remove spring (Figure 7, 1).



7. Detach joint (Figure 7, 3).



Tip: The attachment concept may differ depending on model and model year. The joint may be slotted or fastened with a small bolt.



8. Remove pin (Figure 7, 2) with needle nose pliers or a small screwdriver toward the outside.



9. Pull the lever and the guide springs (Figure 7, 4) out of the sunroof frame toward the center.



10. Remove both the guide springs (Figure 2,1) and the slide (Figure 2, 2) and replace them.



During reinstallation, ensure that the lug of the locating spring attachment is in the correct position.

11. Reassemble, making certain that the guide springs are correctly positioned in the frame.



Note:



Do not move the sunroof while the glass sunroof panel is removed. If the roof is moved, irreparable damage to the sunroof assembly can result.



12. Reassemble glass sunroof panel.



13. Check function:



a. Completely open and close the sunroof panel headliner.



b. Tilt the glass lid and completely open and close the sunroof panel headliner.



c. Completely open and close the glass lid.

Leakage at the coolant pump on Audi vehicles with V6 petrol engine built within a specific period.



This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect until January 4, 2012. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.



Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:



^ Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 19H1 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.



^ Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.

2. Determine which water pump type is installed (housing plastic or aluminum). The plastic housing is black, and the aluminum housing is silver.

Replace coolant pump. (See Repair Manual?6-cylinder direct petrol injection engine, mechanics ?Rep. Gr 19 ?Removing and installing coolant

Per the repair manual, collect coolant in a clean container and reuse coolant during repair. Only use new coolant to top off system.

The customer may report that the daytime running light LEDs in the headlights have slightly different shades of color. There is no related memory



entry.



Technical Background



The minor color differences of the LEDs are caused by the coating of the blue LED with yellow phosphor. This coating is necessary to get white



LEDs.



A permissible range of white for the road traffic is defined by law (Figure 1, Area 1 within blue dotted line).



The LED manufacturer sorts the complete production volume according to even smaller color ranges (Figure 1, Area 2 in black grid).



To get the fewest possible color deviations, Audi uses only part of the manufacturer's already limited range and thus only a small section of what is



legally permissible for road traffic (Figure 1, Area 3).



In production, a finer color selection is not possible; this can lead to minimal color differences. This is normal.

Tip: This procedure must be performed and verified before replacing wiper blades. All Warranty claims will be rejected if a defect is not



found.



1. Wash and dry all affected exterior glass surfaces.



2. Place wipers in service position.



3. Using household glass cleaner (such as Windex(R) or 3M(TM) Glass Cleaner), clean residue from wiper blades.



Tip: Do not use 3M(TM) Polishing Compound to clean the wiper blades.

Using 3M(TM) Glass Polishing Compound:



1. Shake bottle to mix product evenly.



2. Apply cleaner directly to outside of windshield on both driver and passenger sides.



3. Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth (such as 3M(TM) Perfect-It(TM)III Auto Detailing Cloth Yellow).

Vigorously clean windshield with long, horizontal strokes.



Try to avoid applying product to window trim.



4. Allow to dry until a fine film layer (haze) forms.



Tip: Drying time is based on ambient temperatures. Temperatures of 15锟斤拷C or lower can extend drytime.



5. Use a garden hose to rinse the windshield. Also rinse any product that was inadvertently applied to the trim.

6. With a clean, dry microfiber cloth, dry and buff glass to a clean shine.



7. With warm water, wet and ring out microfiber cloth. Wipe off any residue that made contact with trim or rubber.

A leaking cooler for charger air cooling circuit can make the engine radiator appear to be leaking.

Service



If there is coolant residue on either the cooler for charger air cooling circuit (Figure 1, 13) or engine radiator (Figure 1, 15), please follow below



steps:



1. Clean off all coolant residues (use water).



2. Install pump to pressurize coolant system.



3. Bring engine to operating temperature.



4. Pressurize coolant system to 1 bar.



5. Identify which radiator is leaking.



6. Replace leaking radiator.

Affected Vehicles



Condition



The iPod or the USB memory stick is not recognized, or the iPod is not charged when either unit is connected to the Audi Music Interface (AMI).



Technical Background



One of the following may apply:



^ iPod and adapter cable are connected in the wrong order.



^ The adapter cable cannot be connected to the port because the port is not correctly seated in the glove box housing.



^ The wiring harness for AMI between the MMI control unit (5F) and the port connection for the adapter cable is damaged.



Production Solution



Not applicable.



Service



1. Disconnect the iPod and adapter cable.



a. Connect the adapter cable to the port connection in the glove box housing. Adapter cable should click into place. If not, go to Step 2.



b. Connect the iPod to the adapter cable.



c. If the iPod is recognized, explain the connection procedure to the customer.

d. The connection process does not apply to the USB memory stick.



2. Reinstall the port connector in the glove compartment housing.



a. Connect the adapter cable to the port connection.



b. Connect the iPod or USB memory stick.



3. Retest with a known good USB memory stick, iPod, and adapter cable.



4. If the complaint is not resolved with steps 1 - 3, check the AMI wiring harness for continuity and shorts.



Replace if necessary.



The original wiring harness may remain in the vehicle, but it must be protected from rattling against other components.

AFFECTED VEHICLES



CONDITION



The customer may report that the illumination of the dash insert, the air conditioning control panel or the inside light flickers when briefly pressing



the accelerator in P or N or when shifting down while driving downhill.



TECHNICAL BACKGROUND



Only vehicles with PR number 8GH may be affected.



When high electricity consumers are switched off and the battery is fully charged, the energy generated by the alternator is sometimes too great for



the power system to absorb. This may lead to briefly increased voltage, and the lights mentioned above may briefly flicker.



This characteristic is caused by the alternator design and is a normal condition of the vehicle.



PRODUCTION SOLUTION



No change.



SERVICE



Repairs and parts replacements do not change the above characteristic. Explain to the customer that this phenomenon is not a malfunction.

Technical Background



Under extreme driving conditions, such as a driving profile of mainly short distance (stop and go) driving high crankcase pressure can lead to the



above described DTC codes. By changing the crankcase pressure valve to a lower operating pressure this condition can be improved and eliminate



the mentioned possible DTC codes. Along with the crankcase pressure being lowered, a new ECM software level is required to compensate for new



crankcase pressure.



Production Solution



Crankcase pressure reduction starting with model year 2013.



Service



1. Replace crankcase pressure regulating valve using Repair Manual instruction provided in Elsa Web (Engine >> Engine Mechanical >> 17



Lubrication >> Removal and Installation >> Cover with Oil Separator) with part number 06E103547H.



Tip: Reuse collected oil.



2. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.



3. Update the 01 (Engine Control Module) using SVM action code as listed in the table above if necessary.
