After the car has been washed water drips out of the exterior rearview mirror housing leaving watermarks.

Technical Background

When the door mirror housing is in its normal position, up to 120 ml of water can gather in the lower area of the housing. The water drains very

slowly causing the watermarks on the door.

When the exterior rearview mirror housing is folded in (parking position), the water drains quickly and does not create the drip marks on the door.

This can explain why the condition only occurs at certain times, as described by the customer.

Production Solution

A new mirror cover (lower section only) with a design change to the lower section with an additional hole was put in to series production. This new

mirror cover is fitted allowing the water to drain quicker from a position further away from the door.

Service

Have the replacement parts painted before installation.

1. Replace the lower section of the exterior rearview mirror housing for both sides of the vehicle as indicated by the ElsaWeb repair manual Body >>

Body Exterior >> 66 Exterior Equipment >> Removal and Installation >> Exterior Rearview Mirror >> Mirror Adjusting Unit Mount Cover Take

extra care to ensure proper fitment.

2. Road test the vehicle to ensure no wind noises were created due to improper fitment of the mirror housings.

3. Suggest to the customer to enable the automatic folding feature in the MMI to prevent this from occurring in the future.
