Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 30 number 11 - 06 dated April 7, 2011 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

Condition

Customer may report creaking or clicking noises from the gearbox when operating the clutch while the engine is off.

In some cases the operation of the clutch pedal is not smooth.

Technical Background

When operating the clutch pedal, a sliding and rolling movement takes place on the contact points between release bearing and release lever. The

creaking noise is caused by the sliding movement.

Production Solution

Not applicable.

Service

1. Remove the release lever (Figure 1, 7), the ball journal position (Figure 1, 11), and the intermediate piece (Figure 1, 12).

2. After removing the components, check the contact surfaces between release bearing and release lever (Figure 2) for scoring marks.

157

3. If the contact surfaces on the release bearing (Figure 3) are already strongly worn, replace the release bearing.

4. Replace the clutch release parts with the improved geometry part numbers listed below.

^ The release lever (Figure 1, 7), part number 0B1 141 719 K.

^ The ball journal position (Figure 1, 11), part number 0B1 141 777 B.

^ The intermediate piece (Figure 1, 12) part number 0B1 141 751.

The part number of the retaining spring (Figure 1, 13) is unchanged and should be reusable.

Tip: The 0B1 141 719 K release lever must be used with 0B1 141 777 B ball journal or damage may occur. See differences in Figure 4. If

parts are mixed the lever will not operate properly.

5. Reference the repair manual instructions as the following parts require special lubrication (Figure 5).

a. If any original parts are being reused, make sure to remove the old lubricant from the points shown in Figure 5.

b. Lubricate the bearing surface of the pivot point (arrow A) with lubricant G 000 100.

c. Lubricate the points B, C and D using only solid lubricant G 000 150.
