Technical Background

The wiring harness for the 12 volt socket may be pinched or damaged near the attachment point of the center arm rest, or may be pinched or

damaged at the four mounting points of the center console rear section.

Production Solution

Re-routing of the 12 volt socket wiring harness beginning with vehicle production date: November 20, 2010.

Service

1. Check whether the wiring harness for the 12 volt socket is pinched in the area of the center arm rest attachment (Figure 1, red circle).

2. If the wiring harness is in contact with the attachment, check and repair any damaged sections with the repair kit (VAS1978B) and then re-route

the wiring harness.

351

Figure 2 shows the routing before the change.

3. Move the wiring harness to the right under the airbag control unit wiring according to Figure 3. This shortens the wiring harness for the 12 volt

socket and reduces possible contact with the center arm rest attachment.

4. Another potential area where the wiring harness may become pinched or damaged is at the center console rear mounting points (Figure 4).

352

Check and repair any damaged sections with the repair kit (VAS 1978B) and reroute the wiring harness accordingly.
