Supersedes Technical DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR Group 96 number 11 - 23 dated November 8, 2011 for reasons listed below.



Affected Vehicles



Condition



This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:



Side assist becomes inoperative.



This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect until removed.



Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:



^ Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 96C3 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.



^ Vehicle must be within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.



^ Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR.



^ Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.



Technical Background



For Audi A8 vehicles equipped with side assist (address 3C) and manufactured within a specific period, it is possible that the side assist may switch



itself off. DTC 02850 may be stored inside the side assist control unit and the system can no longer be activated.

SVM Update Instructions



1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

2. Update side assist control unit (J769) using the SVM action code as listed in the table above if necessary.



3. If DTC 02850 is set in the side assist control unit then the control unit cannot be updated and must be replaced. Replacement of the control unit



should be claimed under normal warranty and not this RVU.
