Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 69 number 11-21 dated December 14, 2011 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

Condition

After replacing the Comfort System control unit (J393), the control unit cannot be coded via SVM spec/actual.

Technical Background

All new replacement Comfort System control units (J393) must be coded and parameterized using online SVM spec/actual or an SVM code. If the

SVM spec/actual returns a response of "Check Hardware", then the SVM code is required to code and parameterize the new replacement control

unit.

The SVM code can be found in Parts Bulletin 9-90. All parts bulletins are located on the ETKAinfo.com website. The link to ETKAinfo.com is

indicated by the icon seen in Figure 1.

Production Solution

Not applicable.

Service

When replacing the Comfort System control unit (J393), online coding and parameterization must first be attempted using an SVM spec/actual

comparison. If the SVM spec/actual returns a response of "Check Hardware", then it is possible one of the SVM codes listed below is required to

code and parameterize the new replacement control unit.

Tip: No main software update is performed during this SVM communication.

^If the vehicle is a 2008/2009 model year A5/S5 with an original control unit part number of 8K0907289*, you are NO longer required to run the

8T46U002 and 8T46U003 SVM codes. The actions previously provided by these SVM codes have been incorporated into the SVM code

XCHG46A001.

Tip: 8K0907064A* indicates the part number could be 8K0907064AH, 8K0907064AS, etc., and 8K0907064C* indicates the part number could be

8K0907064CS, CQ, etc., and so forth. Due to the large amounts of possible variations, not all combinations are listed above.
