Supersedes Technical DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR Group 38 number 12 - 08 dated April 24, 2012 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

Condition

Customer mat report no reverse -OR- no reverse unless RPMs are raised. No faults stored in the TCM.

Technical Background

An input assembly securing ring that is too thin could allow play in the input shaft. This play causes a lack of pressure build up and will not allow

reverse to engage. RPM increase may build up enough pressure and reverse may engage harshly.

Production Solution

Correct thickness input shaft securing ring installed as of 12/2010.

Service

1. Remove transmission and follow the procedure for removing the input shaft assembly in ELSA: Transmission >> Continuously Variable

Transmission Internal Components >> 38 Gears, Hydraulic Controls >> Removal and Installation >> Input shaft.

Note:

Replace the axial sealing element PN 0AW 301 547A as shown in the instructions while the input shaft is removed. This is the seal that can cause

pressure loss for reverse!

2. Reassemble while following all instructions. Disregard the step that states "Check wear on transmission components" as there should be no

need to disassemble the input shaft. Be sure to use the thickest possible securing ring that will fully insert into the groove from the set of

securing rings PN 0AW 398 321.

3. Reinstall transmission into vehicle. Refill transmission and verify repair.
