Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 10-17 dated April 27, 2010 for reasons listed below.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
CONDITION
The customer may report that:
^ Recent calls are no longer updated in the call lists of the MMI.
^ Recent call lists are no longer displayed at all.
^ The phone book in the vehicle is no longer updating.
417
^ Cell phone entries can no longer be downloaded to the vehicle.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
Software issue with the customer's cell phone or in the 3G MMI main unit (SF).
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
New software (ZUG 0114).
SERVICE
1. Since the root cause for the condition can either be the customer's cell phone or the software of 3G MMI main unit (5F), follow the procedure
below:
a. Ask the customer whether the call lists or phone book could be downloaded before in this vehicle.
b. Determine whether the other phone functions operate correctly.
c. Determine whether the mobile phone and its firmware version are approved (Review list at www.audiusa.comlbluetooth).
2. If all 3 criteria in step 1 are valid, proceed as follows:
a. Ask the customer if the phone firmware was updated or an application (if applicable) was added before the incident.
b. Take the battery out of the phone and wait a few minutes.
c. Reinsert the battery and reactivate the phone.
d. Delete all Bluetooth connections in the MMI phone menu and in the mobile phone.
e. Reconnect the phone to the vehicle.
f. Reset the phone settings in the 3G MMI main unit (5F) to default.
g. Manually start a phone book import.
3. If the complaint persists, perform two additional checks.
a. Does the phonebook import and the call list display of the customer's cell phone operate correctly in another 3G MMI-equipped vehicle?
b. In the customer's vehicle, does the phonebook import and the call list display of another approved phone function correctly?
4. If the customer's cell phone operates correctly in another vehicle and another phone shows the same condition in the customer's vehicle, perform
the following:
a. Update the software of the 3G MMI systems by following the instructions below.
Tip: For successful results, the steps must be performed in this sequence.
1. Check 3G MMI system software version
2. Update software of the 3G MMI system
3. Perform feedback documentation to the SVM
1. Check 3G MMI system software version
1. Switch on ignition and wait approximately 1 minute.
418
2. Press the SETUP and RETURN buttons simultaneously and hold both buttons down for about 5 seconds.
If this message is displayed, the system is not yet completely initialized. Wait a few seconds, then press the RETURN button.
3. Read current MMI train (Zug) version.
4. The train (Zug) versions listed in the table below must be updated.
P versions are production build.
K versions are service updates.
2. Update 3G MMI system software
1. Connect an approved Audi battery maintainer/charger to vehicle.
2. Switch off all unnecessary electrical equipment (blower, seat heater, interior light, etc.).
Tip: Also make sure that no electromagnetic interference sources (mobile phone) are operated in or near the vehicle while individual control units
are being updated.
419
Tip: For complete and detailed instructions for the 3G MMI system update, refer to the attached instructions. (Note: The attached instructions are
generic. Some portions may not apply to this specific TSB. Importing and exporting customer code data is not necessary for this 3G MMI update
system.)
3. Insert update CD into the 3G MMI main (head) drive unit located in the center of the instrument panel.
4. Start the software update.
5. After the software update has been performed confirm the Abort (cancel) documentation" selection. The 3G MMI system will restart. Then
perform the feedback documentation.
3. Perform feedback documentation using SVM:
1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.
2. Confirm any proposed parameter settings and codings.
3. Then perform test program "5F - Information electronics, resetting fault memory" to clear any faults in the system.
Tip: No control unit is flashed as part of the feedback documentation to the SVM. Do not perform any updates of control units. Do not replace any
control units.
