Supersedes Technical DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR Group 94 number 12-78 dated June 4, 2012 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

Condition

A "bulb out" warning is active in the instrument clusters Driver Information System (DIS) display and one or both of the rear side marker lights are

burnt out.

Technical Background

Moisture and debris can enter into the lower taillight housing causing one or more of the bulbs to burn out.

Production Solution

Not applicable.

Service

Please visually inspect both lower taillight housings for any damage as they sit installed on the vehicle. If no damage caused by outside

influence can be found, then please proceed as below.

4

1. Uninstall both lower rear taillight housings. Inspect the lens for any separation around the red, reflecting edge of the taillight lens (Figure 2).

Separation will take the form of a red color shade change along the seam. It may look more opaque than the rest of the perimeter.

2. If there is any separation at all, then please replace the complete taillight housing. Keep the good bulbs and any wiring, and only replace the

housing and any burnt out bulbs. Wipe all original, intact bulbs with alcohol prior to install, keeping any foreign matter, grease, oil from

hands, etc. off of the bulbs.

Inspect the bulb holders for corrosion and debris. Repair and clean as necessary.
