Condition
Humming or metallic rattling noise from under the vehicle, most consistently heard during engine idle or slow acceleration. Initial inspection
indicates the noise is coming from the exhaust system.
Technical Background
Relative movements in the rear mounting of the exhaust system (rear silencer).
Production Solution
Not applicable.
Service
If the complaint clearly occurs in the portion of the exhaust shown below, reduce the tension on the exhaust system:
1. Loosen the mount (Figure 1, A) at the rear of the exhaust system.
2. Tighten the mount (Figure 1, A) while pressing it together with a pair of pliers (Figure 1, B).
