Condition

Wind noise heard by the customer at highway speeds.

Technical Background

Air flows through the exterior rear view mirror housing at the seam where the turn signal lamp meets the housing. This causes a high-frequency

whistling tone.

Production Solution

A sealing strip is installed in the exterior rear view mirror housing.

Service

1. Confirm through diagnosis that the source of the wind noise is coming from the exterior rear view mirror housing.

2. Install a sealing strip on the cover of the housing, as shown in Figure 1.

3. Perform the strip installation to both exterior mirrors, even if the source of the noise is diagnosed as coming from only one of the mirrors.

4. Remove the cap of the exterior rear view mirror housing.

5. Attach a strip of sealing foam tape, Figure 2, (part number 8F0 857 869) in the area of the cover shown in Figure 3. The strip will be the correct

length to extend from the corner of the lip to the angle in the body line; no modification of the strip should be necessary.
