Supersedes Technical DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR Group 57 number 10 - 14 dated March 12, 2010 for reasons listed below.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

CONDITION

^ Vehicles with a power closing rear lift gate cannot close the rear lift gate automatically with a press of the button located on the rear lift gate.

^ When this condition occurs, the following two DTCs can be set with time stamps that are five seconds apart. (For example, if DTC 03250 has a

time stamp of 12:36:10, then DTC 02364 should have a time stamp of 12:36:15.)

^ DTC 03250 (Luggage Compartment Closing Assistance Motor -V382- Open/Short circuit to Ground) in the comfort system central control

module (J393).

^ DTC 02364 (Closing assistance - Incorrect Signal) in the rear lid electronics (J605).

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

This sporadic condition is created when the comfort system central control module incorrectly detects insufficient current draw from the power

closing assist motor. As a result, the power closing assist motor is switched off while the rear lift gate automatically opens. The rear lid electronic

control module then disables the automatic closing of the rear lift gate. This also disables the closing button in the lift gate. From this point on, the

rear lift gate can be closed only manually, using a large amount of force. Once the lift gate is manually closed, the automatic opening of the lift gate

is restored. This problem can be intermittent.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

Optimized software for the J393 comfort system central control module was put into series production.

SERVICE

A SVM software update for the comfort system central control module (J393) is available.

374

1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

2. Update the comfort system central control module (J393) using the SVM action code as listed in the table above if necessary.

3. The remotes must be relearned after the software update.

a. With the ignition on and the engine off, place remote into the ignition for at least 5 seconds.

b. Repeat for each additional remote, if available.

c. If the additional remotes are not available at the time of service, please instruct the customer to repeat this procedure with the additional

remotes. Otherwise, the keyless unlock and start/stop (if equipped) may not work with the unlearned remotes.

4. Once the learn procedure has been completed, turn off the ignition, disconnect the VAS Tester from the vehicle, and lock the car for a minimum

of 2 minutes to allow the vehicle systems to go to sleep.

5. Test the remote's unlocking capability from at least 20-30 ft away from the vehicle to ensure the key has been relearned to the car.

6. If the car is equipped with the Kessy system, lock the car and check all the door handle sensors to ensure they are working.

Tip: The software update provided by this SVM code resolves additional issues listed in the following bulletins:

^ 2019482 57 Remote function of vehicle keys inoperative

^ 2020795 90 All 12-volt accessory outlets are inoperative

^ 2021341 96 Trunk light inoperative
