SUBJECT
Airbag Warning Lamp for OC3 Seat Mat Fault
MODEL
R50 (Cooper), R52 (Convertible), R53 (Cooper S). Vehicles produced up to 11/2005
SITUATION
The customer complains that the Airbag Warning Lamp (AWL) illuminates, together with the Passenger Airbag Status Lamp (POL). The problem
may be intermittent.
FC 71 is stored in the MRS5K Control Module.
CAUSE
Micro-cracks in the OC3 seat mat.
CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only:
^ Follow DIS test plan
^ If no other faults are found, replace the OC3 seat mat.
The label on the electronic module attached to the OC3 seat mat shows the production date in dd-mm-yy format. The improved mats were introduced
at 07-11-05 (November 7, 2005).
From March 2006, replacement parts will be progressively supplied without the cover material. In this case, remove the cover from the faulty seat
and reinstall on the replacement part per RA 52 13 400. Care must be taken to insure that the OC3 mat is not kinked, creased or damaged in any
other way.
NOTE:
To avoid the possibility of a pre-load condition on the assembled part, be sure to follow the repair instructions. The OC3 mat will not enable if
there is pre-load.
PARTS INFORMATION
Parts remain in extremely short supply. Based on the urgency of the situation, please place a VOR or fax an order to Direct Shipment for the
complete OC3 seat cover, mat and foam pad assembly only. THESE COMPLETE ASSEMBLIES ARE THE ONLY PARTS THAT SHOULD BE
ORDERED!
Be aware that parts ordered on a stock order will not be received in a timely manner. Please refer to EPC for the appropriate part numbers.
The individual part numbers for the FOAM PADS WITH INTEGRATED MATS ARE CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE!
