Affected Vehicles
Condition
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:
Noise below the driver's side storage compartment.
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect until July 3, 2012. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:
^ Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 70D5 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.
^ Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
^ Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
^ Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.
Technical Background
On Audi Q5 vehicles with PR number 1D8 "Preparation for towing package" manufactured within a specific period, it is possible that an additional
wiring harness (for the trailer brake control unit) located below the driver's side storage compartment is routed without being secured and causes
noise.
Tip: Trailer brake control units are an accessory product not offered by Audi of America, Inc.

Service
Note:
In cold weather climates, allow vehicle to warm prior to repair to avoid cracking the plastic trim pieces upon removal.
1. Obtain removal wedge 3409.
2. Switch off all electrical equipment.
3. Remove the ignition key.

4. Use removal wedge 3409 (Figure 2, arrow), to detach the side cover (Figure 2, 1) from the dash panel.
5. Move steering wheel down and as far outward as possible, making use of full range of steering column adjuster.
6. Use removal wedge 3409 (Figure 3, arrows A) to unclip instrument cluster's trim cover (Figure 3, 1) from dash panel.
7. Use a small flat screwdriver to carefully unclip the trim cover from the upper trim for steering column switch module (Figure 3, arrow B). Remove
both trim pieces to expose dash trim panel mounting bolts.

8. Remove top bolts (Figure 4, bolts 1 and 2). Figure 4. Bolts (1, 2, 4, 5) and dash panel trim (3).
9. Remove bottom bolts (Figure 4, bolts 4 and 5).
10. Use removal wedge 3409 at top of dash panel trim (Figure 4, 3) on driver's side and unclip cover from dash panel.
11. Unplug electrical connectors at light switch.
12. Equipment version with headlight range control adjuster E102: Unplug electrical connector.
13. Unclip connector, 16-pin T16 (diagnostic connector).
14. Equipment version with footwell light: Unplug electrical connector.
15. Remove dash panel trim on driver's side.
16. On vehicles with PR number 1D8 "Preparation for towing package," it is possible that an additional wiring harness (for the trailer brake control
unit) below the driver's side storage compartment is routed without being secured.
Secure wiring harness with cable tie.

17. Reinstall dash trim panel, instrument cluster trim, and steering column switch upper trim. Reinstall side cover.

^ Destroy and properly dispose of removed parts in accordance with local, state and federal/provincial environmental regulations.
