CONDITION
Cigarette lighter element will not lock in lighter socket -U1- for heating process.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
Retaining tabs (2) in the lighter socket are pushed too far out of the socket to hold the lighter element in place for the heating process. Generally, this
is caused by using the lighter socket as a power outlet for accessories such as cell phone chargers, radar detectors, etc.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Not applicable.
SERVICE
1. Remove cigarette lighter fuse.
2. Remove lighter element.
3. Using a flat blade screwdriver, bend retaining tabs (Figure 1, arrow) inward.
4. Install lighter element and fuse.
5. Test operation several times to ensure lighter pops out and functions normally.

This damage is due to outside influence and is not covered by any Audi warranty.
