Affected Vehicles
Condition
After working on the dash insert or on the brake electronics, the ABS control unit can lose its code. It may not be possible to recode online.

Irregularities in the database.
Production Solution
Pending investigations.
Service
With database problems, the ABS control unit can be coded only manually with self-diagnosis.
1. Before starting the repairs, read off the code of the ABS control unit via Self-diagnosis >> address 03 >> code and print the diagnosis protocol.
Tip: Later in the repair, you will need to reenter the saved code of the ABS control unit, but the code cannot be retrieved once the repair has begun.
2. Perform the repair.
3. If the ABS control unit has lost its code, try to recode it online.
4. If it is not possible to recode the ABS control unit online, enter the code via the self-diagnosis.
a. Select Self-diagnosis >> address 03 >> coding.
b. Select "Hex" to display a tester picture.
c. The existing code is included on the diagnosis printout. Ignore the left $ symbol and you are left with a code of 18 or 19 two-digit
characters.They can be numbers or letters. Enter the characters line by line.
