One of the more commonly asked questions when it comes to switching over to electric vehicles is “Where can I charge?” The answer is mostly very simple on its face — at any charging station. However, there are a lot of different charge-station companies, all of which have their own accounts that need subscribing to and some even use different charge ports. The most famous charging stations are Tesla’s Supercharger stations. Because of their fame, inviting design, ease of use and fast-charging ability, many potential Audi e-tron owners wonder if they can use Tesla’s Superchargers. Unfortunately, the answer is no.
To be honest, there’s not much that’s inherently better about Tesla’s Supercharger stations. Sure, they can charge very quickly but many other charging stations charge just as fast as most Superchargers do. However, the ability to have access to even more charging stations, regardless of brand, would be extremely helpful.You Might Also Enjoy: Audi to partner with Additive Minds to help with 3D printing Audi e-tron customers will have to make do without them, though. Tesla uses a proprietary charge port that’s different from any other car manufacturer, so the Superchargers are only designed for it. Tesla customers can use other brands’ charge ports, if the owner brings their own adapter. But no other car brand can use a Tesla Supercharger.
Tesla is actually the only outlier. Audi, along with all other automakers, use the same SAE Combined Charging System (CCS) for their fast-charging capabilities. It’s a standardized charging port that most other cars use to make life easier for customers. Tesla, on the other hand, is a closed loop. So no Audi e-tron customers can charge up with Tesla customers. Audi did play a bit of a prank on Tesla, though, by debuting the e-tron at some Supercharger stations, for customers to see. While petty, it was kind of funny.

One of them is at home, as you just run the charger to a wall-plug of some sort. However, that’s extremely slow and takes over ten hours to completely top the car off. Another way is also at home; to install a DC fast charger on your property and charge up fully in just a couple of hours. However, you can also stop off at a charge station, like Electrify America. There are other brands of charging stations but Electrify America has been working closely with Audi since the dawn of the e-tron. At the moment, there are 445 Electrify America charging stations in the US and seem to span a nice chunk of the country. You don’t have to use an EA charger, though, as you can use any charger for an Audi e-tron, so long as it’s not a Tesla.

However, there are several others that can be used. As much as any non-Tesla customers would love to charge their cars at Tesla’s Superchargers, it’s just not possible. They’re placed conveniently along most of America’s major roads, so most customers would love to use them. Unfortunately, for Audi e-tron customers, as well as any other non-Tesla customers, you’ll just have to look elsewhere.
