Condition
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in unsold vehicles.
Please note: This RVU applies only to vehicles currently in inventory; this RVU does not apply to sold vehicles.
Criterion 8P
^ Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is illuminated.
^ DTC P013B stored in ECM.
Criterion 02
^ MIL is illuminated.
^ DTC 2271, P0139, and/or P320C stored in ECM.
This RVU is in effect until November 30, 2012. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:
^ Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 23F2 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.
^ Vehicle must be within the Federal Emissions Warranty.
^ Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
^ Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.
Technical Background
Criterion 8P
An ECM software update is required.
Criterion 02
A service regeneration must be performed. The rear oxygen sensor must be replaced.
Production Solution
For vehicles outside of the specified VIN range, the correct ECM software is already flashed.
Service
Tip: It is not necessary to receive a Repair Authorization to perform this or any other TDI clean diesel TSB.
Service regeneration and rear oxygen sensor replacement (criterion 02)

  1. Ensure engine is at operating temperature and fuel level is above 1/4 tank.

  2. Using the VAS 5052 (or equivalent), select GFF >> 01-Engine Electronics, functions >> 01 - Diesel Particle Filter, emergency regeneration


(RG.26). Select the option for a stationary regeneration and follow the steps given by the test tool to burn off any residual condensation in the
exhaust system.

3. Once the regeneration function is complete, the exhaust system will be very hot. Begin work on criterion 01 procedure to allow the exhaust system
to cool before completing criterion 02 below.
Software update with SVM code 23F2A001 (criterion 8P)
  1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

  2. Update the ECM using the SVM action code as listed in the table below, if necessary.


Continuation of service regeneration and rear oxygen sensor replacement (criterion 02)
1. Replace rear oxygen sensor (bank 1, sensor 2 G130). Refer to directions in ElsaWeb >> Repair Manual >> Engine >> Fuel Injection and Glow
Plug >> 23 Diesel Fuel Injection >> Removal and Installation >> Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter.
2. Return parts removed during this RVU.
a. The SAGA system will generate a parts return sheet and barcode for this RVU.
b. Include all parts removed during this RVU. Include all pages of the part return sheets with the parts shipment.
c. Return only parts removed during this RVU. Do not include any other items you need to send to the Warranty Parts Return Center with your
shipment.
Tip: Any items shipped that do not relate to this RVU will not be acknowledged or returned.
USA Dealers
An electronic FedEx shipping label will be generated in the Warranty Parts Shipping Portal (WPSP) for RVU 23F2 parts that are to be returned
under this RVU.

request, ensure that each vehicle has the 23F2 code open in ElsaWeb. Your order will be reviewed and processed accordingly.
