Body - Wind Noise from Exterior Mirror Housing
66 Wind noise from exterior rear view mirror housing at turn signal seam

April 8, 2013
Vehicle Information
Condition
Wind noise is heard by the customer at highway speeds.
Technical Information
Air flows through the exterior rear view mirror housing at the seam where the turn signal lamp meets the housing. This causes a high-frequency
whistling tone.
Production Solution
None.
1. Confirm through diagnosis and road tests that the source of the wind noise is coming from the exterior rear view mirror housing, specifically at
the area of the housing where the turn signal lamp is mounted (Figure 1).
Tip:
If the noise is not coming from the turn signal lamp seam, see TSB 2029586, 66 Wind noise from exterior rear view mirror base or at lane
change assist lamp.
2. Should the root cause of the wind noise be from the seams at the turn signal lamp, remove the turn signal lamp from the mirror housing, starting
with the removal of the mirror housing from the mirror base (Figure 2).

3. Remove the turn signal lamp from the mirror housing (Figure 3).
4. Insert strips of sealing foam tape 8F0857869 into the channel that surrounds the turn signal lamp (Figure 4).

5. Leave no gaps around the perimeter of the turn signal lamp channel (Figures 5 and 6).
6. Exercise care when reassembling the turn signal lamp and side view mirror housing. Incorrect assembly will lead to additional gaps where wind
noise can occur.
Note:
Perform this modification to both outer mirrors even if the wind noise is produced by only one outer side view mirror.
